Really?

I know, I know. You are currently sitting marooned in your house with the unseasonal snow piled up to the rafters, huddled around a candle due to the price of fuel trying to heat your ageing body, unable to get to the dozen or so Jerrycans of petrol which you so prudently stockpiled in the garage following Francis Maude’s advice thinking “What is this nut talking about now?”

Well, after almost two weeks of arriving for meetings just as everyone else was leaving, turning up at half-time to the football games and missing your favourite late night movies on those bizarre Sky Digital channels in the 900 – 969 range that you saved up so hard to subscribe to, you have finally realised that the clocks have gone forward and it’s spring. So it’s time to man up, chip the blocks of ice off your feet, check that your gran has still got sufficient brandy and pills left and let’s get cleaning.

If truth be told this really is a God awful time of year. It’s not quite winter and it definitely isn’t summer - a sort of Aldous Huxley hallucinatory Doors of Perception period between good and evil or in this case, cold and warmth (wet and wetter in Scotland and NI). Those pesky neighbours have started to put their brown bins out for the fortnightly collection which can only mean that the garden is beckoning but I always prefer to start my spring based activities inside and just pray that a rogue flock of sheep will choose to settle in my garden and eat their fill. Today we feature vacuuming.

Our Solutions

Cleaning Supplies 4U offers you a number of solutions from our wide range of Numatic and KÄRCHER vacuum cleaners.

For ease of use at an affordable price why not start with the old favourite Numatic Henry HVR200A dry vacuum cleaner. This unit has a 1200 watt motor and it just eats up dust and dirt on carpets, rugs and even hard surfaces and its 10 metre cord allows for a 27 metre operating area coupled with a high speed cable rewind system.

Henry’s sister is the Numatic Hetty HET200A dry vacuum cleaner. She is light on her feet, compact and very, very powerful. Hetty comes with a 2-stage twinflo motor allowing you to operate in standard Economy mode for normal cleaning or Hi mode for that extra suction required for a deeper clean. Like her brother, Hetty comes with a high performance tool kit and a full range of optional accessories.

KÄRCHER has now entered the home vacuuming fray with its entry level T 10/1 vacuum cleaner. The T 10/1 is a light yet powerful alternative to the Numatic range and it comes with a 10 litre tub capacity, a range of on-board accessories and washable micro filter. Definitely worth a look.

Whatever the need, you can rely on Cleaning Supplies 4U to provide you with the best possible product at the best possible price.

Decision Time

Well folks, it’s that time of year again. You know, decision day. Do I clean my oven before I cook the Christmas lunch for all those lovely in-laws or do I leave it until after the goose has been well and truly cooked? You decide to do the right thing and go for it now so, after drawing lots to identify the unlucky volunteer, the remainder of the family can sit back, watch and smile.

Having lost the toss and been put into bat on a tricky wicket you stealthily enter the kitchen and prepare to do battle. You open the oven door only to be confronted almost immediately by several hundred rather angry bats exiting at pace, irate at being woken up from their year long slumber, a veritable host of large toothed four legged furry animals related to a species unbeknown even to David Attenborough and last but not least what could only be described as a small, but fairly vocal, tribe of extras from the 1966 British film classic 1 Million Years B.C. each armed with the required spiky club and resplendent in their pterodactyl skinned loincloths. Incidentally the strange animal paintings and markings on the inside of the oven can easily be removed after reading our previous Blog posting related to the removal of unwanted graffiti.

The self appointed leader of the cavemen steps forward and grunts in broken English “We have seen how you can cook food without fire so we believe that you have now landed a man on the moon. We saw how communications no longer required fire and smoke so we believe that you now can send mail electronically between continents.

But hang on a minute, Man City top of the league at Christmas? You’re having a laugh mate.” He shouts across to his bearded and bedraggled comrades who now share his look of absolute incredulity “Hey guys wait ’til you hear this one. Man City are top of the league. Aye, right.”

What Has Finland Ever Done For Us?

Well, apart from the ubiquitous Nokia ‘phones pinned to the ears of rude people on planes, trains and automobiles they may well have brought us chewing gum. A blob of some 5,000 year old gum, resplendent with tooth marks, was discovered in Finland, probably on a pavement or under a seat. It used to be made from completely natural elements – spruce, paraffin wax and chicle (hence the brand name of Chiclets) although it was a certain William Semple who applied for a patent for chewing gum as early as December 28th 1869. Most gums are now made out of synthetic rubber for cost and availability reasons.

A Modern Day Scourge

We have all stood or sat on a piece of discarded gum and given that huge sigh of frustration as the gooey mess stretches out from your shoe or the seat of your pants or dress. Indeed, chewing gum has been banned from such places as Disney worldwide, Universal Studios, Seaworld, Busch Gardens, Schiphol Airport and probably most famously of all the island of Singapore since 1992.

Our Solutions

Cleaning Supplies 4U offers you a number of solutions from our stable of quality Selden and Prochem products.

D-Bond is a quick, effective, woolsafe application for removing chewing gum from all types of carpet. Performance is best on dried gum however if the gum is still relatively fresh and soft you may obtain quicker results using SELFREEZ (See below). D-Bond is ideal for pubs, clubs and all carpeted public areas and comes as a 340ml trigger spray.

We strongly recommend that you test a small inconspicuous area of the carpet for colour fastness before commencing cleaning. Spray liberally over the chewing gum and immediate surrounding area. Wait for a few minutes for the chemical action to take place. Using a blunt edged scraper and / or cloth – gently peel the gum from the carpet, taking care not to damage delicate fabrics. After use rinse out with water or a suitable extraction shampoo using an extraction machine.

SELFREEZ is a chewing gum and sticky substance remover for easy removal from carpets and floors. SELFREEZ is also suitable for the removal of sticky deposits. It rapidly freezes chewing gum and sticky deposits so that they may be quickly and easily scraped from carpets and furnishings. Freezes down to a temperature of -80°C but it will not attack fabrics or plastics. Simply spray SELFREEZ onto the offending sticky substance and then scrape off with a knife when white frost hardens it. If the substance softens before removed completely, repeat the above directions. SELFREEZ comes as a 340ml aerosol spray.

Prochem Chewing Gum Remover is a freezer spray for the removal of chewing gum and sticky sweets from any surface. It is supplied with a discharge nozzle to apply freezer action direct to gum which can then be broken away from fibres with a blunt knife. It comes as a 150ml aerosol spray.

Prochem ‘PSK’ Professional Spotting Kit is a complete professional kit including a comprehensive range of Prochem chemical spotters and spotting accessories contained in a tough water resistant plastic case.
Graffiti – modern day urban art to be appreciated or wanton unsightly vandalism with the perpetrators needing to be strung up? Depends I guess on whether the bored, teenaged wannabee Banksy has just spray painted your garden wall or someone else’s in your particular neighbourhood.

Funny or Upsetting

There is no doubt that graffiti can be regarded as artistic, even humorous in certain circumstances. I personally remember back in 1968 just after the Soviet tanks rolled into Czechoslovakia to quell the Prague Spring some local anti-Communist painted ‘Free Dubĉek’ in support of the oppressed Czech leader on a red brick wall only for a comedian to add the immortal words ‘(with every four gallons)’ immediately below the initial statement. In Scotland, innumerable ‘Jesus Saves’ proclamations were subsequently clarified with the following addition ‘but Big Joe Jordan scores the rebound.’ Amusing yes, but only whilst both Dubĉek and Jordan remained topical.

Our Solutions

Cleaning Supplies 4U offers you a number of solutions from our stable of quality Selden products.

Full Power is a thick clinging formula for prolonged contact times which works without spreading. It is perfect for heavily vandalised walls at schools, train stations, parks & housing estates removing all paints including basecoats. Full Power formulation quickly penetrates all types of graffiti including permanent marker whilst & blistering spray paint for ease of removal with minimal ghosting. Full Power is ideal for removing graffiti from brickwork, breezeblock, sandstone and any solvent resistant surface but should NOT be used on solvent sensitive surfaces such as plastics & polycarbonates.

D-Solve is a powerful fast acting formula which is water soluble allowing you to simply rise away with clean water after application. D-Solve is a low viscosity solution ensuring quick penetration to the affected areas and its low odour means it is safer to use in enclosed spaces as it produces little or no choking fumes. D-Solve is ideal for removing graffiti from brick, stone and concretes but should NOT be used on plastics, paints and other solvent sensitive surfaces Simply spray D-Solve onto the graffiti, allow sufficient time to penetrate and then wash off with plenty of clean water. Ensure surface is dry before applying a second application if necessary. D-Solve is recommended FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY.

Graffiti Remover is a new solvent blend which safely and effectively removes graffiti from plastic and polycarbonate surfaces without damage. Graffiti Remover will not cause blooming and will not turn the affected surface that annoying opaque colour. Its surfactant system allows for a unique wash off, rinse away property so preventing residue waste on the surface. Graffiti Remover is a low viscosity solution ensuring quicker and more effective surface penetration than traditional gels. Graffiti Remover is an advanced graffiti remover suitable for use against aerosol paint yet will not damage polycarbonate and plastics.

Whatever the need, you can rely on Cleaning Supplies 4U to provide you with the best possible product for the best possible price.

Any area that is used in food storage, preparation and cooking has to be kept clean at all times. Not only does it make preparation and cooking easier, but clean work surfaces and kitchen appliances make for a healthier cooking environment.

Clean Kitchen Basics

“A place for everything and everything in its place” is a great rule to remember. Kitchen utensils and appliances should have their own dedicated space in the kitchen. They’re quicker and easier to find and after use should be put away immediately.

Clean a Little Every Day

Areas that are used often should be cleaned regularly. These are usually the three points of your “work triangle” which are typically the cooking area, washing area and food/utensil storage area. Try to spend some time daily to give these areas a quick clean and ensure everything is in its right place.

Don’t Spread Germs

Cleaning products such as cloths, dusters and scourers are excellent aids to keeping surfaces and utensils clean but can easily spread germs unless they are kept clean. A great solution to this is to use kitchen rolls which can be discarded along with the germs.

Spring Clean Regularly

Even though you’re now doing regular cleaning, a regular monthly or seasonal spring clean is a must. Every surface, nook and cranny is a target. Empty your cupboards and clean out using disinfectant making sure to clean the undersides of any dirty tin cans.

Clean under your sink making sure that any cleaning chemical containers aren’t leaking and that all caps are secure. Clean behind kitchen appliances such as fridges and microwaves ensuring that you clean any hidden dirt on the floor. Also, don’t forget to clean all your crockery, cutlery and utensils. Finally, wipe down all surfaces, especially food preparation surfaces.

Anti Bacterial cleaners

Anti Bacterial cleaners are excellent for removing grime and stains. They can be used on all surfaces, don’t stain, are food safe and kill potentially fatal diseases such as E. coli, salmonella and MRSA.

So, by sticking to this simple cleaning regime, your kitchen will always be a clean and healthy place to cook.

If you’ve got any questions about how to keep your kitchen cleaner, why not post a comment. We’d love to hear from you!
